DANCEHALL
OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Established in 1983

DanceHall is now the most formidable modern music form, influencing many more genres and it all started at this concert in Kingston, Jamaica. This compilation album captures the energy of that evening and the worldwide phenomenon that DanceHall went on to become.
Initially released in 1984 after a hugely successful concert staged by Innercity Promotions Ltd at which DanceHall was first used to describe Jamaica’s music, the album preserved for posterity the performances at that event. In staging the concert, Michael Tomlinson, otherwise called “Savage” and Lois Grant, co-owners of Innercity Promotions could not have imagined the chain of events that would spin off from that event.
From that seminal event in 1984, Winston Foster went on to great fame as Yellow Man, Fitzroy Edwards as Edi Fitzroy, Lincoln Minott as Sugar Minott, Anthony Fairclough as Papa Michigan, Erroll Bennett as Michigan’s partner Smiley, Richard Bennett as Charlie Chaplin, Robert French and the members of the group Home T4 (Leroy Palmer, Mikey Bennett, Orville “Bagga” Case, and Winston “Diego” Tucker).
This album preserves the performances of these Artist, its value as a collector’s piece is enhanced by being a live recording, a rarity in Jamaican popular music.
Once again, music fans have the opportunity, to experience the excitement of the occasion and enjoy the quality of the performances first delivered under the stars one evening in 1984 at the Harbour View Drive-in Theatre in Kingston, Jamaica.
CARIBBEAN MUSIC FESTIVAL

When the Caribbean Muzik Festival was staged in the Bahamas in June of 1994, it was the first in many categories. It was hailed a success by patrons, artists, investors and organizers alike because it succeeded on so many levels. It was the first time that over 25 internationally recognized Caribbean artiste and performers, representing all genres of Caribbean music, had ever been brought together in one venue of a musical festival.
The idea for a Caribbean Muzik Festival originated from a young Jamaican entrepreneur who secured the endorsement of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO). The acceptance of the concept led to the Bahamas as the venue. Traditionally, the May-June period had been the slowest for tourist arrival to the country and tourism planners in the Bahamas were eager for an event or attraction that could create a new demand for travel during that period while also adding to the image of the destination.
Nassau and Paradise Island, the heart of tourism in the Bahamas, had earned a cache as a casino-oriented vacation, with little activity for visitors outside the hotel environment. The Caribbean Muzik Festival changed that. The Bahamas became the Cultural Gateway to the Caribbean.
The then Director General of Tourism at the time Vincent Vanderpool Wallace said in 1996: "The Caribbean Muzik Festival has become a fixture among Bahamians and visitors alike who look forward to this most prestigious display of Caribbean Culture. The beauty of the Caribbean is surpassed only by the excitement, culture and hospitality of its people".
"Peter Webley, Jamaican born publisher of the Miami based publication Caribbean Today, remarked: "They say that music breaks down walls. The Caribbean Muzik Festival bulldozed them."
The Company Caribbean Republic Inc. which will be producing and promoting the music festival has achieved the notable distinction of providing this important group of consumers with attractions of appeal and memorability
